About me
I am a teacher at Bertha-von-Suttner-Schule in Mörfelden-Walldorf, a comprehensive school with an upper secondary level in Hesse, Germany. I have taught mathematics and physics there since 2015. Since 2016 I have coordinated media education and technology development. Since 2024 I have led the department for organisational development.
I developed the school's AI concept together with staff and the school community. For this, the school won second place in the German AI School Prize 2025 (KI-Schulpreis). On 29 September 2026 the school won the German School Prize (Deutscher Schulpreis), the main award.
Together with colleagues I built bertha.Cloud, the school's own cloud, and the AI agent bertha.KI. I brought together the partners this needed: the school's maintaining authority, its IT service provider, the parents' association and the school authority.
From 2022 to 2024 I was seconded to TU Darmstadt, where I taught in the mathematics education group.
I give talks and advice alongside my teaching, in my own name. The school is not involved.
Schulwerft Stack
Julian Fischer works with Schulwerft: technology that supports a culture of innovation.
Change in our world is fast, and much of it is driven by technology. If schools are to keep up, both the people and the technology in them need to be able to move. Schulwerft is about both: technology that can change, and a school culture of cooperation and new ideas.
Schulwerft Stack is a concept for school IT built from open source services. They work together through one shared account, shared workflows and an AI agent. It is not a product yet.
-
Open
All services are open source and talk to each other through open interfaces. A component can be added or replaced.
-
Sovereign
The services run on servers chosen by the school or its maintaining authority. The AI runs on its own server too. Inputs do not go to an AI provider.
-
Connected
One account works in all services, and a role applies everywhere. Workflows and the AI agent connect the services.
Components: Nextcloud, Collabora, Moodle, Keycloak, Stalwart, a portal for learning apps that teachers build themselves, n8n, an AI server with Open WebUI, and an AI agent in the messenger.
So far Schulwerft Stack runs only at Bertha-von-Suttner-Schule. The school built it with its maintaining authority and their IT service provider. More detail, with screenshots, is on the Schulwerft Stack page (German).
